Agencies plan River Witham enforcement event

A weekend of action is to be held to enforce a crackdown on anti-social behaviour on a Lincolnshire waterway.

Police said they faced persistent problem behaviour near the River Witham in Boston and at Anton's Gowt.

A multi-agency team including Boston Borough Council, British Transport Police and British Waterways has been formed to tackle the issue.

On 31 July and 1 August all partners will attend the area to talk to residents and river users.

'Views and opinions'

Issues include jumping from railway bridges, trespassing and interfering with boats.

Lincolnshire Police said the problems had become so bad that some boat owners were avoiding the area.

A mobile police station will be located in the area and other organisations will have stalls to discuss the situation first hand.

Community Beat Manager, Pc Fran Harrod, said "This will be an excellent opportunity for local people and visiting boat owners to access all the relevant agencies in one place and to talk about how we move forward from here.

"We are all committed to tackling the anti-social behaviour issues that have blighted these locations in recent months and are keen to listen to the views and opinions of those who have been affected."
