Windfall may be spent on potholes in Lincolnshire

A cash windfall for Lincolnshire County Council could be spent on repairing potholes on the county's roads.

The authority recently heard it was to get £2.7m more from council tax bills than it had originally calculated.

Executive members have proposed spending this on potholes, with sections of road being replaced to make the repairs last as long as possible.

The matter will be considered at a full meeting of the Conservative-led county council on 11 February.

Severe weather has already worsened the existing damage on the roads and the local authority estimated repairs would cost around £300m.

It admitted the £2.7m - which came after true valuations of previously estimated finances became available - would not fully solve the problem but would enable it to making lasting repairs.

The council has also received an extra £380,000 from central government to be spent on bus subsidies between 2011 and 2013.
