Cost of Lincoln's Eastern Bypass plans reduced

Lincoln's stalled Eastern Bypass plans have moved forward after the county council reduced the cost of the scheme.

The £130m project was put on hold in the government's spending review.

The Department for Transport has now given the council the go-ahead to bid for funding after it reduced the cost to about £88m.

Despite the savings, the Tory-led authority said it "fully intends" to ensure the bypass will be a dual-carriageway road.

It now has until September to draw up a more detailed funding bid.

The government will make a final decision on the scheme by the end of 2011.
