Lincolnshire pilots rehearse royal wedding flyover

Pilots from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire have been rehearsing the aerial salute they will perform for the royal couple at Buckingham Palace.

Aircraft including Tornado jets and a Lancaster bomber will pay tribute to Prince William and Kate Middleton after their wedding at Westminster Abbey.

Typhoon fighters and a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) will also take part on Friday.

Flt Lt Antony Parkinson said: "It will be an amazing experience".

"To have three iconic aircraft, the Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire, flying in formation might just add to what is without doubt a very special day.

"I was fortunate enough to take part in the Golden Jubilee flypast with the Red Arrows and Concorde.

"And to see a million flashes as we flew down The Mall was really special.

"I'm sure this one will be even more so than that," he said.

Prince William, who is patron of the BBMF, spent time at RAF Coningsby in 2008.

Flt Lt Parkinson said: "Prince William flew in one of the Typhoons on my squadron which he seemed to really enjoy.

"He was a really nice guy to have around and he was very easy to talk to."

The flypast will take place at 1330 BST on Friday.
