Stamford Museum closes after funding cut

A Lincolnshire museum has shut its doors as part of the county council spending cuts.

Stamford Museum, on Broad Street in the town, was earmarked to close after a review of income and visitor numbers.

A local trust that campaigned against the move had hoped to take it over, but the county council said their plans were not viable.

Officials said they hoped to set up a "heritage hub" in the local library as an alternative to the museum.

Five posts have been lost but no compulsory redundancies were required.

The museum had a series of displays on local history and also hosted temporary exhibitions.

The council originally announced it was withdrawing funding for museums in Grantham, Stamford and Skegness but the others are to continue under community management.
