Red Arrows fly again after Flt Lt Jon Egging's death

The Red Arrows have performed in public for the first time since one of their jet pilots was killed in a crash.

Flt Lt Jon Egging, 33, from Rutland, died when his Hawk T1 aircraft crashed into a field in the village of Throop, near Bournemouth Airport, on 20 August.

The eight-plane team performed a flypast at Chatsworth House Country Fair in Derbyshire at about 16:15 BST.

They also flew at a private military event at RAF Linton-on-Ouse in North Yorkshire earlier.

The team began training using eight planes instead of nine on Tuesday.

Shows called off

Sgn Ldr Graeme Bagnall of the Red Arrows said: "It is very significant for us as it's our way to honour Jon, so we were extremely eager to come here today to do this public display.

"The response has been completely overwhelming, we couldn't have imagined the public outpouring of support and condolence."

However, a performance at Portrush, in Northern Ireland, on Saturday has been cancelled.

A return to Chatsworth and an appearance at the Duxford Airshow in Cambridgeshire on Sunday have also been called off.

The team is due to fly at the Guernsey Battle of Britain Air Display and Jersey International Air Display on 8 September.

An inquest into Flt Lt Egging's death has been opened and adjourned in Bournemouth.

A post-mortem examination showed the cause of death was multiple injuries.
