Lincoln bids for brown tourism signs for the city on A1

Lincoln Cathedral is one of the attractions that delegates hope will be signposted from the A1

Delegates from Lincoln are going to Parliament to make their case for brown tourist signs to be put up on the A1 to direct visitors to the city.

They will meet with the Under Secretary of State For Transport Mike Penning at the House of Commons later.

Lincoln's Conservative MP Karl McCartney will join representatives from the county council and the city's Business Improvement Group (BIG).

Previous applications failed to get past Department of Transport officials.

Matt Corrigan, from Lincoln BIG, said he believed there was a good case to put forward this time.

He said other cities now had similar signs to those wanted for Lincoln.

'Gothic masterpiece'

Mr Corrigan said: "York has four large signs visible as you travel along the A1, yet when you drive in the direction of Lincoln, there is just one small sign saying 'air museum'.

"The cathedral here is one of the Gothic masterpieces in the world. We really deserve to be properly signed, at least for the cathedral."

Representatives from Lincoln Cathedral and Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) will also join the meeting on Monday.
