Cuts impact on Nomad Trust shelter in Lincoln

A homeless charity in Lincoln has said cuts to funding have had a serious impact on services.

The Nomad Trust, which lost £196,000 of funding in September, said it was only able to offer a basic level of service at its emergency shelter on Monks Road.

It said the cuts have come at a time when the numbers of homeless people in the city have risen.

Manager Brenda Shields said the centre, which has 16 beds, is having to turn away between 10-12 people every day.

She said the charity is now relying on public donations and has had to cut staff, training programmes and opening hours to survive.

"We have gone back to exactly what we had when the shelter first opened - we are now doing what we can on a shoestring," she said.

In a bid to raise funds the charity has now started its own furniture recycling programme.
