Flood fears over new homes in Swanpool area of Lincoln

Plans for 3,000 new homes in a flood-prone area of Lincoln are causing concerns for some local residents.

A consultation on overall plans for 43,000 new homes in central Lincolnshire takes place in late July.

David Willey, from the Skellingthorpe Road Community Residents Action, said: "We are very concerned about putting these houses on low-lying land."

Lincolnshire's Joint Planning Unit said the land in the Swanpool area would be raised before new houses were built.

The overall homes strategy calls for 18,000 homes in the Lincoln area, with another 10,000 in Gainsborough and 4,500 in Sleaford. The remaining homes would be located in rural areas.

In 2008, the Environment Agency criticised the Swanpool plans and said the area was at risk of flooding.
