The company behind a large offshore wind farm off the east of England have revised their plans.

The Triton Knoll project off the Lincolnshire coast was originally given permission for 280 wind turbines but that number will be almost halved.

RWE Npower Renewables said the aim was to make the site more economic and competitive.

The new plans will also mean the size of the onshore substation at Bicker Fen, near Boston will be halved.

Local residents will have the opportunity to take part in a formal consultation on the substation before a planning application is submitted later this year.

Project manager Jacob Hain said the revised plans meant the development would have less "impact on the surrounding environment and communities".

Proposals for the wind farm which will be 20 miles off Mablethorpe were approved in July.

In November the company revealed it was withdrawing from plans to build a wind farm, the Atlantic Array, in the Bristol Channel citing technical and economic issues.
