MP Karl McCartney in 'Beating the Bounds' charity challenge

One of the charities to benefit will be The Lincoln Tank Memorial - which aims to create a tribute close to where the first battle tank was built in the city, in 1916
An MP is recreating the tradition of Beating the Bounds by walking the boundary of his constituency to raise money for charity.
Lincoln MP Karl McCartney will be joined by about 25 other people for the 34-mile walk, external.
The custom traditionally involved a priest or elder leading villagers around the boundary of a parish.
The idea was to hand down knowledge about where the parish was, in the days before most people had maps.
The custom is still observed in some places as a way of strengthening the community.
The walk starts in Waddington and will pass through the RAF camp - which is currently undergoing improvements to its runway.
Karl McCartney said he hoped to complete the walk in about 16 hours
It then continues to Bracebridge Heath and Greetwell, where sea scouts will help the walkers over the River Witham.
Other places include Burton and Skellingthorpe - before the walkers head back through the city and return to Waddington.
The five charities to benefit from the challenge are St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice, the Lincoln Tank Memorial, Lincolnshire Motor Neurone Disease Association, One Me and YMCA Lincoln.
