The Lincoln slide is expected to be similar to the one installed in Bristol city centre last year

People will have the chance to shoot down a giant water slide in Lincoln as part of a fundraising event.

The Rotary Club of Lincoln Colonia will set up a giant flume in the city centre on 12 July.

The idea came from a similar event in Bristol last year, which saw riders cheered by a crowd bashing cow bells.

Riders will have the chance to buy £3 lottery tickets to secure a place at the event, which will take place in the Flaxengate area.

'Great gusto'

Duncan Gerrard, from the Rotary Club, said artificial beaches could also be created.

"The local businesses around us have entered into it with great gusto," he said.

"We just want people to come and have a really fun day and at the same time we'll raise some money for charity."

Only about 400 people will be able to ride the water flume.

Last year, some 360 ticket holders were picked from nearly 100,000 applicants to ride the 90m (295ft) slide in Bristol.
