Woodhall Spa's Dambusters memorial in partial collapse

The partial collapse of the memorial is not believed to have been caused by vandals

Repairs are being carried out on a Dambusters memorial after it partially collapsed in a Lincolnshire village.

It is believed the damage to the central plaque of the structure in Royal Square, Woodhall Spa, was due to its age rather than vandalism.

East Lindsey District Council said work to re-pin the plaque would be completed over the coming days.

The 617 Squadron, also known as the Dambusters, operated from RAF Woodhall Spa from January 1944 to May 1945.

The wall depicts the night time raid on dams during World War Two and is dedicated to the memory of those from the squadron who died during the operation.

The area has been cordoned off while the work is carried out on the memorial, which was erected in 1987.
