Chief Constable Neil Rhodes (centre) is retiring in February

A police force will re-advertise the job of its chief constable after the only two applicants were deemed not suitable.

The post at Lincolnshire Police was promoted internationally with the role open to candidates from the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Marc Jones, the county's police and crime commissioner said one applicant was from overseas and one from the UK.

The new chief will replace Neil Rhodes, who is retiring in February.

Mr Rhodes is stepping down after 31 years as a police officer and serving three years as Lincolnshire's chief constable.

'Best possible candidate'

He was suspended soon after taking up his job in 2013 by the then PCC Alan Hardwick. He was reinstated a few weeks later after winning a judicial review into his suspension.

Mr Jones said the job would be advertised overseas again.

"I am determined to find the best possible candidate for Lincolnshire and following the Appointment Panel's unanimous advice to re-advertise will give the best chance for success," he said.
