One person has died and two more have been taken to hospital after a fire at a house in Lincolnshire.

The blaze broke out at a property in Pear Tree Road, Kirton, near Boston, at about 03:00 GMT.

Lincolnshire Police said the injuries suffered by those taken to hospital are not thought to be life threatening.

A force spokesman said the cause of the fire was under investigation. Police have not yet released any details about those involved.

The first floor and roof of the house were gutted in the fire.

Lincolnshire Police has said that due to the ferocity of the fire it may take "a number of days" to complete its investigation and establish how the fire started.

The force has appealed for information about the occupants of the house and asked for any witnesses to come forward.

David Danby, the chair of Kirton Parish Council and local resident said he woke shortly after 03:10.

"By about 03.30 the whole of the top floor was ablaze," he said.

"The fire service got there as quick as they could but it had caught hold and it just shows you how quickly a fire can spread."
