A woman has died after car crashed into a branch of Specsavers opticians.

The woman, in her 40s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the car smashed into the shop on Wide Bargate in Boston, Lincolnshire Police said.

The driver, who was in her 80s, sustained minor injuries, according to the force.

A shopworker said she heard several people shouting followed by "a large bang".

Sam, who works at a nearby charity shop, said: "Customers started coming and saying that a car had hit Specsavers, basically smashed one of the windows in."

"All the emergency services turned up. Staff out of all the shops nearby basically ran out to help."

An air ambulance was sent to the scene.

Police have said they hope to reopen the road by 18:30 BST.
