Four people have been seriously injured in a crash involving a lorry and an ambulance carrying an emergency patient to A&E at Lincoln County Hospital.
The vehicles collided on the Lincoln Eastern bypass shortly after 05:00 BST, Lincolnshire Police said.
The ambulance was travelling southbound on blue lights while the HGV was travelling north, the force added.
East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EMAS) said the ambulance had two crew members and a patient on board.
Emergency services had been on scene since the collision, which happened at 05:07 BST between the Wragby Road roundabout and the Greetwell Road roundabout, police said.
'Distressing time'
Sue Cousland, from EMAS, said the patient in the ambulance was being transported to hospital as an emergency case when the crash happened.
Ms Cousland said: "Our thoughts are with our colleagues, the patient and the lorry driver involved in this incident, and with their loved ones at this distressing time.
"We are supporting those involved, and other colleagues across our service who are understandably concerned having heard the news this morning."
Police have asked anyone with information, or dashcam footage from around the time of the incident, to get in touch.
The road remained closed, a Lincolnshire Police spokesperson added.
