The pitch suffered extensive damage where the bikes had skidded and turned, club officials say

A pitch used by a Lincolnshire football club has been badly damaged by quad bike riders, a grassroots team has said.

Glenn Hislop, of Fishtoft FC, said the incident happened on Wednesday night.

He said the main pitch had suffered extensive damage where the vehicles had skidded or turned.

It was very disappointing, especially as volunteers had spent a "massive amount of time" to get the surface playable all year round, he added.

Mr Hislop said he was alerted by dog walkers who called to tell him there had been some "serious damage".

He said it appeared the culprits had ridden all around the field, but with the major damage being done where "they've been skidding or turning and ripping it up".

"Obviously, its wet weather and the pitch is boggy and and it's just torn it up and made some big deep ruts," he told BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

"It's very disappointing," he added.

Mr Hislop said the damage had led to the cancellation of some sessions for children because the pitch was unsafe.

However, he said the response from the local community had been fantastic, with more than 20 people helping to repair and seed the damaged areas.

Other clubs had also offered to help, he added.

Fishtoft FC play in the Boston Workforce Unlimited Saturday League.
