Frederick Powell died at his home in St Martin's Close after falling through an internal glass door

A housing provider has been urged to carry out a review of its properties after a 93-year-old man died falling through a glass door.

Frederick Powell was fatally injured after the fall at his home in Lincolnshire in September.

Following an inquest, coroner Paul Cooper said while no building regulations were breached Acis Group may want to review use of the doors.

Acis Group said its properties were maintained to a good standard.

Mr Powell died from his injuries at his home on St Martin's Close in Blyton, near Gainsborough, on 6 September, the inquest heard.

A prevention of future deaths report, external issued by Mr Cooper following the hearing said there was a "risk that future deaths could occur unless action is taken".

"Although it is not suggested current building regulations were breached, the inquest was told many more properties in your stock retained internal glass doors," he wrote in the report, which was sent to Acis Group.

He asked if it was "time for a review to reconsider replacement".

A spokesperson for the housing group said it wanted to reassure residents that "we strive to repair and maintain our properties to a good standard which is fully compliant with all statutory and legal obligations".

"We already have arrangements in place to remove or encapsulate such glazing when a property is empty and, following this incident, have looked at how we might expand this programme."

They added that glass doors were "not unique to Acis" and were present in many other rented and privately owned properties.

The company said it would respond to the coroner's report and asked any of its customers who had concerns to contact the firm.
