Police officer's ultra-marathon in memory of Lincolnshire road deaths

A police officer who completed a 48-mile ultra-marathon in memory of the 48 people who died on Lincolnshire's roads last year has thanked those who had helped him finish the challenge.
Sgt Mike Templeman ran almost 200 laps of a 400m track at Yarborough Leisure Centre in Lincoln in a 12-hour period.
He raised more than £4,000 for the charities Brake and RoadPeace.
Afterwards, Sgt Templeman thanked "my amazing friends and colleagues who looked after me and ran with me".
The Lincolnshire Police officer, who will be known to fans of the Channel 5 show Police Interceptors, also praised "the amazing and brave families" affected by road deaths and serious injuries who had shared their stories.
"I'm truly humbled," he said.
"We can and must collectively do more to share and make our roads safer for everyone."
Earlier, Sgt Templeman had said that as well as raising money for the two charities, he had hoped to raise awareness of offences that contributed to many of "the needless deaths" on Lincolnshire's roads.
Those included drivers travelling at excessive speed, the use of mobile phones while driving, people not wearing seatbelts and drug and drink-driving, he said.
After he finished his ultra-marathon on Sunday, which marked the start of Road Safety Week, external, Sgt Templeman said the friends, family, colleagues and members of the public who had spurred him on - and who even ran a few laps with him - would "never know how much that lifted me".
