A lorry driver, 39, arrested in Lincolnshire on suspicion of helping asylum seekers enter the UK has been released on bail.

Nine people, including a woman and a child, were found after banging was heard at the back of an HGV parked at the A1 truck stop near Colsterworth.

Before being discovered on Thursday, they had travelled for over 18 hours from Italy, Lincolnshire Police said.

The adults were Vietnamese, Iranian and Iraqi nationals, a spokesperson said.

They were passed to immigration officials and a boy was taken into the protection of the local authority, they added.

Conditions inside the trailer were described as "very hot", officers said.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Lincolnshire Police.
