A "selfless" lifeboat volunteer has been awarded a special medal to celebrate 30 years of service.

David "Wiggy" Sellers became an all-weather lifeboat mechanic at Skegness Lifeboat Station after joining the RNLI in the 1990s.

He also worked as the boathouse manager making sure the vessels were permanently ready for action before retiring in December.

The RNLI said Mr Sellers was a "symbol of unwavering dedication and kindness".

After joining the RNLI his skills, aptitude and commitment were evident, the spokesperson said, and he quickly became the mechanic on The Lincoln Poacher, Skegness's all-weather lifeboat.

In addition to his service in Skegness, Mr Sellers acted as a relief mechanic in other regions in the north of the UK.

He received his medal at the Skegness RNLI, external Christmas party and he will also be given a retirement vellum, honouring his years of voluntary service.

The RNLI spokesperson said: "His 30 years of voluntary service have been marked by incredible knowledge, leadership, and a significant commitment to saving lives at sea.

"We are immensely grateful for his service and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement."

The charity added that Mr Sellers' contributions to the RNLI and maritime safety "will be remembered and celebrated by all those who had the privilege of working alongside him".

The RNLI saves lives at sea around the coasts of the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man, as well as on some inland waterways.

It has 5,700 volunteers, 238 lifeboat stations and 448 lifeboats, according to its website.
