Work will begin next week to redevelop a historic Lincoln landmark after funding was secured for the project.

The Grade II listed 40-42 Michaelgate will become holiday accommodation, City of Lincoln Council said.

The property comprises a 16th Century timber-framed house, alongside a house and shop dating from the 18th Century.

The council and Heritage Lincolnshire secured £350,000 for the project from the Architectural Heritage Fund, and work is expected to be finished in May.

The property, which falls within Lincoln's Cathedral and City Centre Conservation Area, is known for its distinctive lean - which gave rise to the nickname the Wonky House - and the city council said its "ongoing dereliction has been a cause for concern for some time".

Heritage Lincolnshire CEO Tracy Stringfellow said: "Heritage Lincolnshire are so pleased that work to save the iconic Wonky House on Michaelgate is beginning.

"We have worked hard in partnership with City of Lincoln Council to secure funding from the Architectural Heritage Fund, City of Lincoln Council and Investors in Lincoln and are excited the works will finally begin next week."
