RAF Kirton: Plans for 350 homes on former base approved

Plans for 350 new homes on a former RAF base in North Lincolnshire will go ahead, it was confirmed.
Full permission for 120 properties and an outline for the remainder at RAF Kirton were approved by the council.
The plans would provide a housing scheme that was "effective" and "respects the area's historic character", developer LandIS said.
But critics argued local services such as the doctor's surgery and school were already at capacity.
Developer LandIS said it would provide a heritage information board and keep the base's Grade II listed Sector Operations Building, used during World War Two.
The building could become a satellite doctor's surgery, LandIS added.
In a previous statement it said the proposals would provide family homes and the plans "will bring betterment to the area and will positively add to the housing offer in Kirton in Lindsey".
But Kirton in Lindsay Town Council's David Garritt said the surgery and local school were already full and questioned whether the developers would be contributing to the town's infrastructure.
RAF Kirton in Lindsey was used by the Royal Flying Corps during World War One, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Spitfire squadrons stayed for a short time during the Battle of Britain and it was also used by the US Air Force.
The RAF and Army then used it at various points after the war, until it was put up for sale in 2013.
