A mum has paid tribute to her "happy and outgoing" daughter who was found dead in a tent in Spalding.

The body of Colette Law, 26, was discovered in St Mary and St Nicolas Church on 17 July 2023.

Paul Neilson, 30, was jailed for four years and eight months on Wednesday after pleading guilty to three assaults and perverting public justice.

Trisha Law described her daughter as "happy and outgoing" with an "infectious laugh".

In a statement read during the sentencing of Neilson at Lincoln Crown Court, she said: "Colette always loved her purple hair, her favourite colour was purple. She loved to sing and do karaoke. She was funny, she was the life and soul of the family."

Describing her death as "unbearable", she added: "Every corner we turn, she is there."

Ms Law explained how Colette was the youngest of her three daughters and had moved to Spalding in the summer of 2023 with her boyfriend Neilson.

She died after being assaulted by Neilson on 8 July and twice on 10 July.

Ms Law said her daughter had "made a huge impression" on everyone she met in Spalding and said "everyone misses her".

'She wanted to be a mum'

Ms Law said: "Even when she was miles away we were in contact all the time, so many times a day, We always spoke even when she'd not got her own phone, she would find a way to speak with us.

"The last three years of Colette's life was not what parents would wish for their daughter."

Ms Law said: "All she ever wanted was to love and be loved back. She wanted to be a wee mum, have a nice house and now we will never know how she would have turned out because she was never given the chance."

She also said Colette was the first to pass away in their family and that she would "live on in our memories forever."
