Mr Adair's family described him as a family man

The family of a "much-loved granddad" who was murdered while holidaying in Skegness has paid tribute to him.

Charlie McGhee Adair, 59, was found dead on scrub-land in Skegness, Lincolnshire, on 3 July 2023.

Anthony Robertson, 32, was jailed for a minimum of 31 years at Lincoln Crown Court on Monday following a trial.

In a statement, Mr Adair's family said: "Charlie was taken from us so cruelly and we are left to suffer this tremendous loss."

The court heard Mr Adair, who was visiting a music festival in the seaside resort, was murdered by Robertson whom he had "randomly" met in the street.

Prosecutor Jonathan Cox told the jury that Mr Adair, from Corby in Northamptonshire, had been beaten round the head so badly that his injuries had killed him.

'Unbearable'

In a statement released by police, his family said: "We are so numb and trying to process this loss is unbearably painful.

"Charlie loved his family so much and just loved being a grandad. We were so close, he was our world and we were his.

"We all miss him so deeply and it is unbearable."

It added: "Charlie shall always be loved and remembered for being the friendly, funny, charismatic, and genuine family man that he always was."

Mr Adair's son, also called Charlie Adair, said he had been left "stunned and shocked" by his father's murder.

Robertson, of no fixed address, was convicted following a three-week trial.
