Belvoir Castle: Plans submitted for 140-pitch caravan site
- Published
One of the largest caravan clubs in the UK is looking to expand its network by creating a 140-pitch touring site close to Belvoir Castle, near Grantham.
The application before South Kesteven District Council has been submitted by the Caravan and Motorhome Club, which currently operates more than 160 sites.
If approved, the site at Woolsthorpe by Belvoir would also incorporate glamping pods and pitches for tents.
The planning application said it would bring "significant economic benefits".
Carry on camping
The 10-hectare development would be within walking distance of the popular Belvoir Castle on the Leicestershire border - which dates back to the 11th Century and is the ancestral home of the Duke of Rutland.
In addition to the pitches, the plans include a reception building, toilet block and play area.
The park, which would be a major extension to an existing small site, would also create six full-time and two part-time positions.
Car parking for the proposed new campsite will be on the touring pitches and there will be a small car park on the campsite for people who are camping and glamping.
Planning documents submitted by the club, which has more than 385,000 members, forecast an annual spend of £3.88m.
This would translate to "substantial support to the local rural economy" and support the council's visitor economy objectives, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
