A bid to keep a sex shop open in Hull has been successful, providing the business complies with a number of conditions.

Hull City Council's licensing committee approved a one-year licence extension for the Private Shop on Hessle Road at a meeting on Monday.

Under the terms, the business must ensure the interior of the shop is not visible to passers-by.

The licence holder is also required to make sure there is no noise nuisance.

A report to the licensing committee referenced a nearby karate club, which ran classes for children.

There were also three churches, four schools and two community centres in the vicinity of the premises, at 263 Hessle Road.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the council did not receive any formal objections to the application.

Other conditions state the business is to be run solely as an adult store, or cinema, and no one under 18 is allowed inside at any time.

The business is also the only store of its kind to be allowed in the area.
