The candidates standing in the 2024 local elections in Lincoln and for the county's police and crime commissioner (PCC) have been announced.

A third of the city council's 33 seats are up for grabs, with one seat available in each of the 11 wards.

Five people are contesting the PCC role, including Conservative candidate Marc Jones, who has held the post since 2016.

Voting takes place on Thursday 2 May.

Other candidates for the PCC position include David Dickason, for the English Democrats; Peter Anthony Escreet, for Reform UK; Mike Horder, for the Labour Party and Lesley Anne Rollings, for the Liberal Democrats.

Earlier this year, council leader Ric Metcalfe (Labour) revealed his decision not to seek re-election, opting instead to retire after 42 years.

The 81-year-old councillor first entered the political arena in 1982 when he was elected as the councillor for Minster ward, securing a majority of 38.6%.

He held this position until 1999 when boundary changes led to his election as a councillor for Glebe ward. He then ascended to the position of council leader in 2011.

The council is currently led by Labour with a total of 20 councillors, the local authority also includes nine Conservatives and four Liberal Democrats.
