Final preparations are being put in place for this year's Spalding Flower Parade.

The Lincolnshire town will see dozens of floral floats drive through the town on Saturday.

More than a million tulips have being picked by an army of volunteers to decorate the displays.

Parade organiser Stephen Timewell, who brought the event back last year after a 10-year break, said locals had been preparing for months.

"So it took us a year to get this stage," he said.

"The last minute things. We're literally pinning the flowers on now, the fresh flowers.

"But also going round things that you can easily forget, like checking the battery is all charged up, because we've got an illuminated display that's going to look spectacular in the parade."

The annual parade began in 1959 to celebrate the area's flower growing, but ended in 2013 due to costs before it was revived last year.

The theme this year is the movies.

Floats include tributes to Dr Who, Back to the Future and the Little Mermaid.

Many are sponsored by local companies and help support the county's charities.

One organisation taking part is Boxes of Hope based in Holbeach which provides aid to families in Ukraine.

Mandy Baxter from the charity who will be riding on the Harry Potter themed float said the "effort from the community has been amazing".

"We're really excited," she said.

"It's going to be really hot and I'm going to be dressed as Hagrid. So I'm going to be really looking forward to that."

The parade starts on Saturday at 11:00 BST at the Castle Sports Ground on Pinchbeck Road.

It will take a 3 mile (5 km) route through the town before arriving back at the sports ground.
