Brentford burst water main flooding damage assessed

About 50 properties were flooded after the mains pipe broke in Syon Lane

Residents are counting the cost of the damage after several west London homes were flooded when a mains pipe burst.

Thames Water said loss adjusters had visited most of the properties in Brentford affected after a 30in pipe in Syon Lane broke on Thursday morning.

Water supply was restored to properties in Hounslow, Chiswick and Twickenham after engineers turned off the water.

Thames Water said water had been pumped out of London Road and it hoped to fix the pipe by Saturday.

Temporary accommodation

But it could be up to a week before the surface of London Road, which remains closed between Syon Lane and Bush Corner and was dug up to repair the pipe, is rebuilt.

A spokesman for Thames Water said: "A team of Thames Water staff along with our loss adjusters have been visiting customers affected by flooding to assess the damage, arrange alternative accommodation where needed and start the process of clearing up and dealing with insurance claims.

"Anyone affected by flooding who has not been contacted by a loss adjuster is advised to call our customer centre."

Teams of contractors employed by the firm visited the affected properties on Thursday to dry the homes.

The spokesman added that the company had provided hotel accommodation for two families but most people chose to remain in their homes.

Hounslow Council had also provided temporary accommodation to several people, including elderly people from a care home, he added.
