Old Spitalfields Market underwent extensive refurbishment in the 1990s
One of London's historic markets has been named the best private market in the UK.
Old Spitalfields Market was handed the award for its range of innovative services and projects that "really engage with the public".
Award organisers, the National Association of British Markets Association (NABMA) said it "truly is everything a modern market should be".
The venue near Liverpool Street Station is home to about 200 traders.
The Victorian market hall can trace its origins back to the 13th Century and underwent extensive refurbishment in the early 1990s.
Graham Wilson, chief executive of NABMA, said: "The level of entries in this category was the best since the competition began.
"Clearly, it is a very historic site and all of the traders represented provide an excellent mix for shoppers."
Lord Lee of Trafford, chairman of the market's operator, Wellington Market Company Plc, added: "It really does validate all of the hard work that the traders and management team have put into making it the success that it's become."
