Saracens revise plans for Copthall Stadium revamp

The revised plans for Barnet's Copthall stadium seek to resolve transport and parking issues

Saracens rugby club has revised its plans to refurbish Barnet's Copthall stadium to try to resolve transport and parking issues.

The revised proposals have been submitted to Barnet Council and full details of the changes are being made available to local residents.

They include details of match day bus services to cut down on cars.

It follows a six-month consultation with residents, supporters and other bodies.

The stadium will also be used for other sports including athletics.

The stadium will have a capacity of 10,000 and will have removable stands on three sides.

Minimise disruption

The revised application includes a transport plan that reduces the percentage of supporters travelling by car to 36%.

New designs for the east stand feature wood, trees and greenery to reduce its visual impact.

Saracens, who currently play at Watford FC's Vicarage Road, will use the stadium for a maximum of 16 days of Premiership rugby each season from September until May.

Saracens chairman Nigel Wray said the new plans would minimise disruption to local residents.

"We have listened and we have learned," he said.

Mr Wray added: "The revisions to the plans cost money and the Saracens shareholders' investment will rise beyond £16m, but we are determined to advocate proposals that enjoy widespread public support."
