London mayor election: Candidates grilled by BBC panel

  • Published

A panel of BBC London correspondents have questioned some of London's mayoral candidates in a series of interviews.

Labour's Ken Livingstone, Conservative Boris Johnson, Liberal Democrat Brian Paddick and Green Party candidate Jenny Jones all took turns in the hotseat.

They were asked about a range of issues including the transport network, the economy and policing.

The role of London's mayor is described as being one which promotes "economic development and wealth creation, social development and the improvement of the environment" in the capital.

The mayor has responsibility for policies regarding London's transport, planning and development, culture and the environment. He or she is also directly accountable for policing performance in London.

In order to vote you must be registered before Wednesday, 18 April.
