The first person to be killed riding a hire bike in London was a 20-year-old Frenchwoman, it has emerged.

Philippine Degerin-Ricard was struck by a lorry on Cycle Superhighway 2 outside Aldgate East station in east London, at 18:30 BST on Friday.

It was the first fatal crash since the "Boris bike" scheme began in 2010.

A post-mortem examination earlier found she died of multiple injuries. An inquest will open and adjourn on Wednesday at Poplar Coroners Court.
