Cyclist dies weeks after Regent Street crash

The collision took place on Regent Street in central London

A 70-year-old cyclist has died nearly three weeks after he was involved in a collision with a car in central London.

Officers were called to reports of a crash between a car and a cyclist on Regent Street on 25 February.

Michael Mason, who was then aged 69, was on the bicycle. He was taken to hospital and died on Friday.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said his next of kin had been informed and officers are appealing for witnesses to the crash.

No arrests

The driver of the car was stopped at the scene and was not arrested.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place on 19 March at Westminster Mortuary, police said.

Det Sgt Jeff Edwards, who is leading the investigation, said: "This stretch of road was fairly busy with commuters, and I would urge anyone who may have seen any of the parties in the moments leading up to the collision, or the collision itself, to contact police.

"I also wish to trace any person who may have moved or had any contact with the pedal cycle."
