A 44-year-old man is wanted by police in connection with a fire at a flat in north London in which his mother died.
The woman, who is believed to be in her 60s, was found suffering stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the property in Lawford Road, Kentish Town, after the fire early on Friday.
The Metropolitan Police said it was looking for Peter Holboll, who was last seen on Thursday morning.
He is described as white, about 5ft 10in tall with black hair.
He was seen wearing a green T-shirt and brown trousers.
Police believe Mr Holboll had been staying at the property for the past month.
Officers have asked the public not to approach him and instead contact the police.
Det Ch Insp Russell Taylor said a post-mortem examination would be held tomorrow.
"At this point I am unable to definitively say whether she was dead before the fire was set or she died as result of the fire and the knife wounds that have been inflicted," he said.
The fire in the ground floor flat of a converted house started just before 06:00 BST.
London Fire Brigade said five people in the flat above were rescued and one woman was treated for the effects of breathing in smoke.
