An Arsenal fan has been arrested after "an object" was thrown at the Manchester United bench on Saturday.

The incident occurred as United scored their first goal in the 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The Metropolitan Police said the 49-year-old man was arrested "on suspicion of missile-throwing". He has been released on bail to a date in December pending further inquiries.

An Arsenal spokesman said the club was cooperating with police.

He confirmed an object was thrown at the Manchester United dugout, and said any offender found guilty would be banned from the ground.

"We don't tolerate anti-social behaviour," he added.
