A murder inquiry has begun after the bodies of two men were found following a fire at a flat in central London.

The men were discovered on the third floor of Stelfox House in Penton Rise, Kings Cross, on Friday evening.

One man was aged in his 50s and the second man was aged in his 40s

More than 20 firefighters attended the scene just after 19:00 GMT and the fire was brought under control by 20:00 GMT. Next of kin have yet to be informed, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

Det Con Insp Glen Lloyd appealed to anyone in the area who saw anything unusual early on Friday evening to contact police.

"Two men have died and my team is eager to hear from anyone who was in the area or passing by before or just after this fire started," he said.

Transport for London said traffic restrictions were in place on Penton Rise and Kings Cross Rise after police cordoned the area off.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and a date for the post-mortem examinations has not yet been set.
