Plan to build Westway cycle superhighway scrapped by mayor

Plans to create a segregated cycle path on London's A40 Westway have been scrapped by the mayor's office.

The proposed route was amongst a package of "cycle superhighways" announced by then-mayor Boris Johnson.

Transport for London (TfL) had been consulting on proposals to create a cycle path on the flyover's six traffic lanes, but has now dropped the plans.

Sadiq Khan's Office confirmed it was committed to an East-West cycle path but is looking at alternative routes.

Mr Khan has approved two cycle superhighways since coming to office in May.

In September the mayor approved separate plans for a three mile (5km) cycle superhighway between Elephant and Castle and King's Cross, while a cycle superhighway linking Swiss Cottage and Oxford Circus was approved in August.
