'Goblin' rail works shuts line for eight weekends

The London Overground line between Gospel Oak and Barking will be closed for eight consecutive weekends from 4 June.

Passenger demand for the 14-mile long route has doubled since 2008, according to Network Rail.

Work to electrify the so-called "Goblin line" in order to add larger four-coach trains began more than a year ago but the £133m project has run into delays.

Alison Hill, who lives next to the line, said the night time works are disruptive for local residents.

Network Rail has apologised for the "unavoidable disturbance" for when the works take place., external
