One-year-old Peter Connelly died in 2007 after suffering more than 50 injuries

"Baby P" Peter Connelly's mother is still a danger to the public and has been denied parole, officials have ruled.

Tracey Connelly, 36, was jailed in 2009 after admitting to causing or allowing the death of her one-year-old son.

She was let out on licence in 2013 but returned to prison for breaching her parole conditions in 2015.

The Parole Board confirmed on Tuesday that Connelly would have to wait up to two years before another review.

A panel made the ruling in October.

When deciding whether to release a prisoner, the board primarily considers whether they are a risk to the public.

It also takes into account the nature of their crime, the prisoner's history, their progress in prison, any statements made on their behalf and reports from relevant professionals.

Tracey Connelly, Steven Barker and Jason Owen were all imprisoned for Peter's death

Peter Connelly died in Tottenham, north London, on 3 August 2007, after suffering more than 50 injuries.

Reviews showed the toddler could have been saved if officials had acted appropriately on various warning signs of abuse.

His mother, her boyfriend, Steven Barker, and their lodger, Jason Owen, were all imprisoned for his death.

Owen was recalled to prison for breaching conditions of his release in 2013 after being freed in 2011.

Barker was jailed for life with a minimum of 10 years for raping a two-year-old girl in north London.

He was given a 12-year term to run concurrently for his role in Peter's death.
