London Victoria power failure leaves hundreds stranded

Commuters are facing major delays due to a failure of the electricity supply at London Victoria station

Hundreds of commuters are facing major delays after the electricity supply to London Victoria failed.

Southern Railway, Southeastern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express were all reporting cancellations and delays of up to 45 minutes on Tuesday.

The power problems had affected a large section of track between Croydon and Victoria, Southern Railway said.

All lines are now open but commuters have been told to expect disruption until the end of service.

Network Rail apologised to customers and said the problems were due to a "power supply issue" at about 18:00 BST.

A spokesperson said: "We would advise passengers to check before they travel as there are severe delays and cancellations of services.

"We'd like to thank passengers for their patience and we're sorry for any inconvenience caused."

A Southeastern spokesperson said the initial problem had been resolved.

He added: "We are expecting disruption to continue until the end of service.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and would also encourage anyone who has experienced a delay of 30 minutes or more to claim Delay Repay via the Southeastern website."

About 210,000 passengers use London Victoria every day, according to average figures collected for the Office of Rail and Road in 2016-17.
