A man has died in a shooting in west London in the early hours.

The victim, believed to be in his 20s, was found suffering from gunshot wounds on Askew Road, Shepherd's Bush, at about 00:40 BST.

He was pronounced dead at the scene less than an hour later, the Met Police said. No arrests have yet been made.

A woman who lives close to where the shooting took place said it was a "traumatic experience" for it to happen so close to home.

The 42-year-old had been falling asleep when she heard a noise and looked outside to see a man on the ground being helped.

'Heard screams'

Only later was she told he had been shot and died.

"A very traumatic experience I must say, I've never seen anything like that before," she said.

Another resident said he was left "shaken up" after witnessing the aftermath of the shooting.

He said: "I was in bed last night and at 12:40 I heard two gunshots and a guy kind of scream and then I heard a scooter drive off just up the street."

The man called the police and was walking over to the victim when two others got out of their cars to help before emergency services arrived.

"He wasn't moving, the guys were trying to resuscitate him," he said.
