About 70 firefighters have been called to Pield Heath Road to tackle the blaze near Hillingdon Hospital

Dozens of firefighters have tackled a fire near a hospital in west London overnight.

Ten fire engines and about 70 firefighters dealt with the blaze in Pield Heath Road, near Hillingdon Hospital.

Two single-storey storage units and two containers were alight.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called just after 19:00 GMT on Thursday. The fire was under control by midnight. Its cause is under investigation.

Station commander Clive Robinson said LFB had taken nearly 20 calls about the blaze.

"Firefighters worked hard to bring the fire under control and stop it spreading to other units," he said.

"There was a lot of smoke, so we advised nearby residents to keep their doors and windows closed."

Fire crews from Hillingdon, Hayes, Heathrow, Southall, Ruislip, Harrow and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.

Hillingdon Council said some of the buildings that were damaged did not have planning consent.

"At the time of the fire, the council had an active planning enforcement investigation on the site and the council will now need to carefully consider next steps in light of the incident," it added.
