- Published
A man has been shot dead on a south-west London street.
The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to reports of gunshots heard on Shuttleworth Road in Battersea at about 21:50 BST on Thursday.
Officers and paramedics attended and treated a man in his 20s, but he died at the scene.
The Met, which has launched a murder investigation, said a crime scene remained in place. There have been no arrests and inquiries continue.
The force added the man was yet to be formally identified but his next of kin were aware.
Wandsworth Police posted on X that a Section 60 dispersal order had been authorised, external for part of Wandsworth until 05:00 BST on Saturday, which means stop-and-searches can be carried out without "reasonable grounds".
'Detectives will work tirelessly'
Det Ch Insp Neil John, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a tragic incident where a young man has lost his life whilst standing on a street in Battersea.
"Detectives are working at pace to gather as much information as possible and I would ask anyone who was in the area and saw events unfold, or anyone who has captured this on phone or doorbell footage, to contact police immediately."
Det Ch Supt Clair Kelland said: "This murder will come as a terrible shock to the local community.
"I want to reassure them that experienced homicide detectives from the specialist crime command will be working tirelessly to find out who is responsible, and we will offer them all the support we can."
She added: "There will be an enhanced police presence in the area over the coming days.
"Please tell us if you saw or heard anything, or wish to raise any concerns."
Labour MP for Battersea, Marsha de Cordova, said she was "deeply saddened" by the man's death, adding that it "shows the urgent need to take action to combat serious violence".
