Firefighters rescue husky stuck on a window ledge in Tottenham

Firefighters used a ladder with a cage to bring the stranded husky down

A husky stuck on a window ledge in north London was rescued by firefighters at the weekend.

The young pup called Coco was discovered by neighbours whimpering on the ledge of a first floor window in Siward Road, in Tottenham, on Friday, London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.

It was home alone at the time.

Firefighter Dan Poullais said: "We were worried it was going to fall because the ledge was so narrow and it couldn't turn around to get back inside."

He added: "Neighbours said they think the window was only slightly ajar and that the husky had managed to push the sash window up itself before climbing out."

'Began to calm down'

Mr Poullais said the brigade had been called to the scene at 22:20 BST and initially requested the support of the RSPCA and a Metropolitan Police dog handler.

However, firefighters took action using a 32m (105ft) turntable ladder with a cage to bring Coco down over fears the dog would slip off the window ledge.

"Leading firefighter Nick Michael, who loves dogs, went up the ladder to complete the rescue armed with some dog treats that had been given by neighbours," Mr Poullais said.

"He managed to get a collar and lead onto the dog and safely brought it down to the ground, where it began to calm down."

An LFB spokesperson said firefighters were "ready, willing and able to assist distressed or injured animals".

They encouraged Londoners to call the RSPCA first, adding the fire brigade will assist if its "specialist equipment is required".
