Detectives investigating a "life-changing" knife attack on a football fan at a pub have appealed for help in identifying a suspect.

The victim was watching a televised match in Tollington Park, Islington, when he was involved in a "brief verbal altercation", the Met said.

A man then allegedly slashed the fan's face with a knife, leaving him with "a deep laceration".

The incident happened on 26 April at about 20:30 GMT.

In a statement, the Met said it was releasing images of a man it wanted to identify following extensive inquiries.

Det Const Danitza Iniesta said: "The pub was busy with people who were watching the Arsenal v Manchester City game.

"We believe the victim and suspect spoke a few times throughout the evening without issue, before this horrific act of violence unfolded.

"If you were there that evening, or you know the man pictured, I urge you to contact us immediately."

Following the incident the suspect left before police arrived and the victim was taken to hospital, the Met added.

It said the injured man continued to be treated for a wound to his face from his left cheek to his lip.
