Police said the man was found injured on the Old Kent Road

A man has been stabbed to death in south London, the Metropolitan Police has said.

Officers were called at 06:52 GMT to reports of an injured man on Old Kent Road in Southwark.

A 47-year-old man was found with stab wounds and despite the efforts of paramedics he died at the scene at about 07:20.

A 54-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.

Detectives believe the stabbing may have taken place at a residential address close to where the victim was found.

Det Ch Insp Mike Nolan said: "While we are keeping an open mind concerning motive, it does appear that those present at the address at the time of the stabbing were known to each other and that there is no wider threat to the public."

A crime scene remains in place and inquiries are under way to notify next of kin, the Met said.

Ch Supt Seb Adjei-Addoh, who leads policing in Southwark, said residents would be shocked by the murder and they could expect a more "visible police presence" over the coming days.
