A murder investigation has begun after a man was found dead in a car parked at a shopping centre in east London.

A member of the public contacted police on Monday with concerns about a person who "had potentially come to harm".

The car was traced to the Stratford Centre in Newham where a man's body was found.

A man was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday at a home in Hampshire and he remains in police custody.

Police said they were working to confirm the dead man's identity. A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

Crime scenes are in place in Newham and Hampshire.

Met Police said they did not believe there was any danger to the public.
